MUJER RAÍZ – ROOT WOMAN
A scenic tribute to the maternal lineage
MUJER RAÍZ – ROOT WOMAN is a play that shows us a woman who is reunited with her maternal lineage by approaching the life of Malintzin and with this she discovers the strength of her roots and those who preceded her. In a one-person format and lasting 50 minutes, MUJER RAÍZ is the result of historical documentation work, approaching the population to find out their perception of this highly controversial character in Mexican history; coupled with first-hand research work with various “Danzas de conquista” (conquest dances) that have been resignified to approach them on stage as a means of creation and not just representation.
This work was created together with a group of artists who, united by the love that is woven between tradition, creation and the scene, worked on the original creation of music, singing, literary texts, scenery, lighting, costumes and elements. multimedia; and thus generate a stage tribute/thank you to the women of yesterday and today. The participation of the population that shared photos of those women who are no longer whith us to join us on stage stands out.
Produced by the “dirección de danza de la UNAM”, selected within the ENARTES 2022 program of the SACPC, MUJER RAÍZ was released in 2021 and has been presented in venues such as the “Sala Miguel Covarrubias”, “Sala Elisa Carrillo del CCMB”, “Teatro de la Danza” y “Teatro Sergio Magaña”.
